SEN and Additional Needs
Provision is made for children who experience difficulty in Literacy and Numeracy in a number of ways. Our smaller classes mean that each pupil enjoys more one to one assistance from the class teacher. Class work is appropriately differentiated to meet the ability level of each pupil. Where appropriate, and depending on parent agreement, pupils may have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) devised, setting realistic targets and putting in place certain strategies to help them to reach them. Also provided may be help in the form of withdrawal sessions. A small number of children with specific learning difficulties are well supported by classroom assistants and teachers from external agencies (e.g. LTSS). Parents are always consulted prior to the involvement of external agencies.
Similarly we recognise the additional needs of pupils who are gifted and talented in certain areas of the curriculum. We do our best to ensure that adequate challenge is provided for every pupil to enable them to maximise their potential both academically and in other areas such as sport and music.
Our school works closely with RISE(NI), ASD Services and the Educational Psychology team. We strive to meet the needs of all our pupils as best we possibly can.
